Everything you need to know about Veneers

For people who want to completely change the look of their teeth in an affordable way, without the need of invasive tools, Veneers can solve your dilemma.

Dental Veneers are done by bonding semi-translucent thin shells onto the front part of the teeth. Best known for its cosmetic purpose, Veneers can alter the size, shape, length and colour of your teeth without affecting its healthy tissues. Veneers are strong and can provide the same strength and functionality of the original teeth. Even if no special care is required for dental veneers, good oral hygiene habits are still recommended.

Why choose Dental Veneers?

Dental Veneers are specifically made for each patient to look natural. It’s permanently fixed and has a life expectancy of 15 years. Veneers address a wide array of dental difficulties:

  • Discoloured or stained teeth
  • Malformed teeth (Chipped, broken or worn-down teeth)
  • Teeth gaps or spaces
  • Misaligned, uneven or strangely-shaped teeth

What type of Dental Veneers do you need to get?

Dental Veneers are available in two materials: Composite and Porcelain.

Composite Dental Veneers

Composite Veneers are a tooth-coloured resin material that is used to form the dental veneers. It’s comparatively less expensive than Porcelain Veneers but may not be as strong as porcelain. Composite Veneers are also vulnerable to chipping, colour fading/change and staining over a long period of time. They can be excellently used in minor aesthetic changes such as closing small gaps or minimally adjusting the tooth’s size and shape. In just one dental visit, Composite Veneers can be directly applied and sculpted on your teeth.

Porcelain Dental Veneers

With the same cosmetic purpose as Composite Veneers, Porcelain Veneers are stronger and more durable. Recreating the teeth’s natural look, it’s made to colour match and fit your current set of teeth. Porcelain veneers are also stain-resistant and our gum tissue tolerates it well.

Procedure in getting Porcelain Veneers

With MS Dental, three appointments in a 2-4 week period are needed to get the perfect set of Veneers.

First Appointment:

Your first visit is for Diagnosis and Treatment Planning. Initially, the dentist will ask what you want to achieve and examine your teeth. Your initial treatment choice and other treatment options will be discussed, for you to consider the best solution that will work for you. If you should decide to go with Veneers, the procedure will be explained to you. This is the perfect time to ask questions and address any concerns that you may have. After which, an X-ray and impression of your teeth and mouth will be taken.

Second Appointment:

Your second visit will be about Preparation. In preparing your teeth, the dentist will remove 0.5 millimetre of enamel from your tooth surface. A model will be made and will be sent to the lab to prepare the permanent veneers. Creating the permanent veneers may take 1-2 weeks, so the dentist will place temporary veneers while the permanent one is being prepared.

Third Appointment:

The last appointment is for the Bonding of the Veneers. First, the permanent veneers will be temporarily fitted to make sure that it fits well and is a proper match to your teeth. If necessary, adjustments in the fit and colour will be done. If the veneers is perfect, it will be permanently bonded onto your tooth.

How long will Porcelain Veneers last

Veneers do not require any special care. With good oral practices such as brushing and flossing, Veneers last between 7 to 15 years. After this time, it would be needed to be replaced.
