Dental Emergency Can Be Due To Any of the Following Reasons:

- Broken Dentures
- Wisdom Tooth
What To Do If You Experience Toothache Pain?
- Thoroughly rinse your mouth with warm water.
- Apply a cold compress to the outside of your mouth if your mouth is swollen.
- Take 2 x Nurofen, Advil or ibuprofen (not Nurofen Plus)
- Call us to arrange an emergency appointment.
What to Do in Trauma or Injuries / Broken Tooth?
- If your child is less than 6 years of age, take him/her straight to the Children’s Hospital closer to you.
- If the tooth is out of the socket, take care handling the tooth, and only handle it by the crown, not the root.
- If you are unsure about placing the tooth back, place the tooth in milk. Do not store the tooth in water.
- There are times when a tooth can be re-implanted and saved if done so promptly. Teeth that are reinserted into their socket within 1 hour have the best chance of surviving. Cold packs can be used to help in reducing any pain and swelling.
- If you play sports, you are more likely to sustain damage to the teeth when you are not wearing a protective MOUTHGAURD. The cost of the injuries sustained without a mouthguard may be more than the cost of having a professional mouthguard made.
- Call Us to arrange an emergency appointment.
What Should I Do if I Have Swelling?
- Issues relating to swelling must be addressed quickly and should not be left to be.
- Antibiotics tend to help in response to these swellings but should only be taken when prescribed by a health professional for the issue at hand.
- Often the swelling is the body’s reaction to injury or infection. Causes can include infected teeth, trauma, or impacted wisdom teeth.
- Swelling is often accompanied with pain, but may be the only symptom present.
- Swelling is considered to be an urgent emergency and it is important it is addressed as soon as possible.

What Do I Do If I Have Lost a Fillings?
- The loss of a filling should be address as quickly as possible. Even if there are no accompanying symptoms such as pain, the tooth structure may be weakened and more prone to breakage and infection.
- When addressed to promptly, fillings can often be replaced with minimal intervention saving you time and money on more costly treatments that may result if treatment is delayed.

What Do I Do If I Have Lost a Crown, Veneer or Bridge?
- If you lose a more extensive restoration, such as a porcelain crown, then firstly put the piece in a safe place where you won’t lose or misplace it. Majority of the time it is possible to re-cement displaced restorations rather than make new ones.
- If the tooth is causing pain, use a cotton swab to apply a little clove oil to the sensitive area (Clove oil can be purchased from local super markets or pharmacies)
- The exposed tooth may be more sensitive and irritating towards the tongue, therefore it is advised that you make a dental appointment as soon as possible and avoid any aggravating factors such as cold foods.

What Do I Do If I have Broken My Denture?
- A broken or cracked denture can affect the functionality of the device.
- It is best to get a crack seen to before it turns into a breakage. Often dentures can be repaired.
- If a denture breaks and is not worn for a period of time, there is a risk that even once repaired the denture will no longer fit, therefore, to avoid the need for new dentures to be made problems should always be addressed to promptly.
